Freelance model maker

The Model Fabricator or Model Maker must have a comprehensive understanding of materials along with fabrication, paint / texturing techniques and styles used for the broad range of 3-dimensional models and props required on a stop motion animated feature including but not limited to miniature scale models of sets, and props for all interior and exterior locations.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnalyzes model/prop drawings and plans in order to build to required specifications. Studies and makes assessment of model or prop and recommends optimum materials or process for creating desired props. May include the process of creating and making molds and castings for the desired props. Textures and paints finished product. Maintains and repairs models and props to ensure the quality of the film is kept intact. Helps in the general upkeep of the workshop. Expected to meet model and prop building duties as required hitting previously agreed schedules while maintaining a high standard of quality.

Qualifications
5+ years experience in a model shop for a stop motion production or Visual FX environment where the construction of models for miniatures was required.
Preferred 1 year experience working in StopMotion feature, commercial or television
Strong aesthetic sense and ability to interpret the unique 'style' of the film into 3D designs. Experience with alternative skills: jewelry, metal work, architecture models, Stop Motion
Set Dressing a plus
Ability to deliver on schedule, working under pressure if required * Ability to work as a team member.
Detail oriented.
Ability to think creatively.
Demonstrated knowledge of shop, electricity and equipment safety.
Strong spatial skills.
Strong aptitude for understanding and interpreting the creative vision of the production designer.
Strong knowledge of model and prop design and construction. Proficiency with regard to most all power tools within the model shop.
